Wood Stove Inserts

A wood stove insert is built to slide into an existing masonry fireplace, sealing off the open firebox and turning an inefficient traditional fireplace into a closed combustion system. The difference in performance is significant: an open fireplace typically loses most of its heat straight up the chimney, while a modern insert can retain and radiate far more of that heat back into the room, since it burns wood more completely and controls airflow instead of drawing it straight up and out. It will keep the heat in better and can save money on heating bills. It also gives off less air pollution - making it an enviromentally friendly choice.

We carry inserts from Drolet, Englander, Enerzone, and Buck Stove, ranging from compact units suited to smaller masonry openings up to larger models rated for whole-home heating. Several models on this page qualify for the federal biomass stove tax credit — check our Drolet, Enerzone, or Englander tax credit pages for which specific models qualify and current credit details.

Fit matters more than style with inserts — the unit needs to match your existing firebox opening and flue size, and in most cases you'll need a liner kit to connect it properly to your chimney. If you're not sure what will fit your fireplace, our buying guides cover measuring your opening, or you can contact our team with your fireplace dimensions for help narrowing down the right model.

Every insert ships free on orders over $399, with no sales tax outside New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. Pair your insert with a hearth pad or heat management system to complete the installation.
